A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY.

Tanji is a costal fishing centre with a population of 30,000 habitants. It also attracts tourist who may wish to visit the sites within the village such as; museum, camel safari, bird watching centre and resorts.
The village is also blessed with a number of educational institution.
Tanji Lower Basic School was established in 1980 through “Tesito” a Mandinka word meaning tied waist or self help project. Since then the school only benefited from the World Bank donors of which 3 classroom blocks and a single office were built and the rest were through community participation and tourist ( philanthropist).
In September 2019 to date the roll has escalated up to 2050 students of which 1,150 are girls and 900 are boys. So in short, we’ve more girl child enrolled than boys which is a good statistics compared to the previous statistics. The school has a staff of 56 teaching staff some of whom are not natives of the village so they travel on a daily basis to school.
In conclusion, this is a complied brief history and statistics of both the school and community.
