Tanji Lower Basic School is one of the most magnificent and thrilling school of The Gambia. It lives in her aspiring, friendly, caring and conducive learning environment, where the history of Gambia lives and breathes.
Tanji Lower Basic School was established in 1981 through the community innovation system called “Tesito”. It’s a Mandinka word meaning tighten up waist and amalgamating hearts for common goals. It’s first headmaster was Master Demba of Tanji. Later on, the school was moved from community ownership ( property) to the government.
Today the school has a roll of 2,100 pupils and a staff of 48, 3 caretakers, 2 cleaners, playing ground, school garden, kitchen and a dining hall.
The school is located within the village of Tanji which the school is named after.
Tanji Lower Basic School offers basic education to school going ages from seven years, to begin Lower Basic School career of six years.
On extra her pupils are exposed to the following activities; school gardening, social and environmental club, red cross and drama club just to encourage and enhance self awareness and sustainability.
Tanji Lower Basic School is looking forward to have links with European schools and exchange experience and practises to learn from each other and create awareness.
